Unicorns are the Worst
by Alex Willan
Hilarious. Told from the perspective of a goblin who is unimpressed with unicorns and suddenly finds himself neighbors with a herd of them, this is silly and sparkly and fun from start to finish. The voice is perfect and makes this so much fun to read aloud. One your kids, unicorn obsessed or not, will want to read again and again.
It’s Okay to Be a Unicorn
by Jason Tharp
Unicorn fans will be delighted by this new picture book. It is full of color and energy, but also a bit of a turn. Instead of everyone thinking unicorns are as rare and lovely as rainbows, in the town of horse inhabited Hoofington unicorns are disliked. In fact they say some mean things about them so the main character, Cornelius, hides the fact that he’s a unicorn from everyone. The story has some nice repetition and a good message. I did feel like the ending was a little unrealistic, but then again it is a world of unicorns and talking horses so maybe that’s okay. It is a bright, cheerful book that I’m sure many will be excited to add to their unicorn book collection.
It’s Not All Rainbows
by Jessika von Innerebner
We all have bad days, but unicorns don’t. Unicorns are perfect and they are always cheerful. Or are they? Kevin the Unicorn has only experienced perfect unicorn days full of “magical awesomeness” until one day he wakes up on the floor and his day only gets worse from there. Poor disheveled Kevin has got to be one of the relatable unicorns ever. This is a cute book full of energy, emotion, and unicorns. It is bursting with color, but also the message that some days aren’t perfect and that’s okay….even if you’re a unicorn.
If I Had a Unicorn
by Gabby Dawnay and Alex Barrow
From the bright cover to the gorgeous end papers to the cheerful imaginative story inside, this is a delight. The little girl wonders “if I had a unicorn” and her imagination takes off. The playful illustrations show the unicorn causing all sorts of mischief. A fun read aloud with snappy text and colorful illustrations.
