Daddy’s Day as Father’s Day is affectionately known in our house is just around the corner. This week our book list is inspired by those beloved daddies.

We Love Dads Picture Books and More
Monday: Read a Book about Dads
How to Cheer Up Dad by Fred Koehler
Little Jumbo’s Dad is having a bad day. It’s hard to imagine why (insert lots of daily parenting battles here) but Jumbo is determined to cheer up his dad. This is such a sweet book full of Dad and son bonding. Super Jumbo is also a ton of fun.

Tuesday: Read about Superheros
Hero Dad by Melinda Hardin
Obviously a lot of books are out there about superheros and some of them are delightful, but with Memorial Day on the brain, this is a different kind of super hero book. This is a great one for kids with a dad in the military. (There is one about moms too). I love how it compares the dad in the story to a superhero.
Wednesday: Dad or Grandpa’s Choice
Kids get their turn to pick a story all the time. Mom got a chance too. Now it is Dad’s turn!
Thursday: Read a Book about Camping
When You Are Camping by Anne Lee
This is a truly beautiful book about camping. I love the watercolor artwork and the wonderful appreciation for the outdoors that shines through on each page.

Friday: Read a Book with an Orange Spine
Stick! by Andy Pritchett
All puppy wants is someone to play stick with him! This book is told with only a few words but the illustrations tell the rest of this funny tale. This is one of our favorites to read aloud right now.
Saturday: Read a Book with the Letter P
The Pesky Rat by Lauren Child
This was a gift that completely took me by surprise. It is a cute, humorous story but I was not expecting my kids to fall in love with it. Something about the rat that wants to be a pet speaks to them apparently because this is a frequent read aloud pick.
Sunday Author Spotlight: Marla Frazee
Marla Frazee is an award winning illustrator and writer of children’s book. Her books are full of a dry wit that I was pleased to find on her website as well.
If you know any of her books it is most likely The Boss Baby (or The Bossier Baby). Both are hilarious read alouds you must find if you haven’t already read them.
Our first introduction to Marla Frazee’s work was her illustrations in Everywhere Babies which was hands down my daughter’s favorite book for the first two years.
Her books are all full of quirky charm and creative views on the world which often result in much guffawing.

The Farmer and the Clown
This wordless tale (yes, I sure do love my wordless books) tells of an unlikely friendship. This one will make you feel all the feels.
