Bees are starting to buzz around the bushes in my yard. For me, that’s one of the signs that Spring is here and Summer is on it’s way. As a child I was terrified of bees, but I have since come to appreciate these incredible creatures.
In part, my change of heart came from incredible picture books about bees. Books like the ones included in today’s Buzzing Bumblebee Storytime!

The Honeybee
by Kristen Hall
illustrated by Isabelle Arsenault
I love these gorgeous illustrations and the way the text plays with the senses. This has brief, engaging text that is perfect for reading aloud. It also imparts some interesting information about honeybees.
King of the Bees
by Lester L. Laminack
illustrated by Jim LaMarche
I love the gentle, Southern feel of this wonderful book. It tells the story of a little boy who is eager to help his aunt and learn the family beekeeping business. This makes bees not a stinging, scary insect, but a beautiful, important and almost mystical creature. This is well paced but admittedly longer book so know your storytime crowd and whether they will stay with you for this one.
Horsefly and the Honeybee
by Randy Cecil
This is a quicker paced adventure book about two insects who have to find a way to work together when they are captured by a bullfrog. The brief text and fun story make this a perfect one to read aloud.
