Bats and Spiders immediately pop into my head when I think of Halloween. Bats and Spiders are kind of like the animals of Halloween and my kids are ALL about animals of any kind.
Whether you think they are creepy or fascinating, bats and spiders make a fun topic for a story time or themed unit. There are so many different directions to go in for both.

Read:
If I Had a Vampire Bat
by Gabby Dawnay and Alex Barrow
This is the newest addition to their pet wish series. In this one the rhyming text and humorous illustrations imagine what it would be like to have a vampire bat as a pet, especially around Halloween. It is playful, only slightly spooky, and tons of fun to read aloud. I love the adorable illustrations – yes, apparently vampire bats can be seriously cute – and how the text often leaves a little space for the reader to fill in what they think might come next. A great Halloween read aloud.
