Business done. On to the books!
Book Suggestions for Week 6
Monday: Read a Book in a Silly Voice
The Monster at the End of this Book by Jon Stone
This has been around for decades but who doesn’t love Grover? In this silly read aloud Grover is scared because there is a monster at the end of the book. He uses some drastic and hilarious measures to attempt to stop the readers from turning the pages to the end. Don’t worry – the end is fun, not at all scary.
Tuesday: Read a Book about Sledding
Red Sled by Lita Judge
This nearly wordless book is one of our absolute favorites about Winter. It’s on the top of our sledding picture book pile and the illustrations are some of the loveliest depictions of Winter ever.
Wednesday: Read a Book with the Letter C
Too Many Carrots by Katy Hudson
Rabbit loves carrots. In fact, he might love them a little too much. This bright, happy picture book is full of good humor and a lesson in friendship.
Thursday: Read a Book about Clocks or Time
The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle
Children will laugh at this grumpy ladybug while they learn about time, shape, size and friendship. A classic by one of the true great picture book creators.
Friday: Read a Textured Book
That’s Not My Monster… by Fiona Watt
This is a whole Usborne series of textured board books so if monsters aren’t their thing I’m sure you can find one to suit their interests. My twins loved these books when they were babies and toddlers so we have a bunch on our shelves. Every page has a different texture to rub and repetitive text your toddler will enjoy predicting.
Saturday: Read a Book about Monsters
That’s Not the Monster We Ordered by Richard Fairgray, Tara Black, and Terry Jones
This is a fun book about a family who convinces their parents to get them a monster. When it arrives, however, it is not the one they ordered. My kids delighted in the preposterous-ness of the story and I loved how in the end they learn to appreciate what they have.
Sunday Author Spotlight: Birgitta Sif
Oliver by Birgitta Sif
I cannot say enough good things about Birgitta Sif. This is one of those authors that when I hear they wrote a new book I immediately head out to get it. They are all delightful and quirky and beautiful. OLIVER is one of our favorites. It is about a sweet boy who is a little odd. One day he discovers someone else who is a little bit different too. I teared up the first time I read this book. It holds a beautiful message like so many of Sif’s wonderful books do.
